Four Year Strong – Summer Session Number 4

Dan O’Connor and Alan Day from the Worcester, MA band Four Year Strong treated us to an interview and acoustic performance of songs from their new album, Enemy Of The World (iTunes). When the guys walked in, we were surprised to see them in Colonial outfits, on Flag Day no less! Turns out it was just a coincidence as the band was taking a break from a video shoot for their song “Tonight We Feel Alive (On A Saturday)” and didn’t have time to change. It wasn’t the most comfortable clothing on a hot Summer day, but the band rocked through 4 songs nonetheless.
Click through to learn about the band’s inspiration for and see them perform “Wasting Time (Eternal Summer),” “Tonight We Feel Alive (On A Saturday),” “Find My Way Back,” and “One Step At A Time.”

Recording Enemy Of The World was a new experience for the band. In the past, they would get to the studio with songs written and worked out, ready to record. This time the band wrote a majority of their songs in the studio and worked closely with veteran producer, Machine, who the band credits for bringing focus and helping hone the band’s sound, resulting in tighter songs. The guys enjoyed performing and recording acoustically as it allows them to sing softer and use harmonica and cello in their songs.
“Tonight We Feel Alive (On A Saturday)”
Since one of their songs, “What The Hell Is A Gigiwatt” is a reference to the movie Back To The Future, the guys started talking movies and Dan proclaimed his love for Tom Hanks and said he would dedicate his left leg to the famous actor with tattoos of characters and sets from his movies as well as a picture of Tom himself. He mentioned Wilson the ball from Castaway, the bench from Forrest Gump, a mermaid from Splash, a keyboard from Big, Woody from Toy Story, Hooch from Turner and Hooch, etc. Alan then countered that he wants to dedicate his leg to everything Christmas, including but not limited to Christmas movies!
“Find My Way Back”
The guys are psyched to be back on the Warped Tourthis summer. They were on the tour back in 2008 and it was one of the best times of their lives. Alan describes the experience as summer camp, making great new friends and finding fun things to do in various cities. Dan commented that the shows and the fans are awesome as well as the other bands that play on the tour. Some of their favorites include: Set Your Goals, Polar Bear Club, Everytime I Die, The Swellers, Bring Me The Horizon and Pierce The Veil, to name a few.

if your video player worked, that would be awesome…it plays like a minute, then stops and it has to restart.

I like Four Year Strong normally, but my expectations have been exceeded by far! I NEVER would have thought they could pull off their material acoustically so well. That’s crazy talent.
