Artist Of The Week: The Law

From Dundee, Scotland, The Law‘s first trip to the U.S. started with a stop off at the Last.fm Discover studio. They churned through three songs from their debut album A Measure Of Wealth and told us exactly why America is ready for them.
Their trip to the U.S. started with a 6 hour drive to Heathrow Airport. Then the flight across the Atlantic which took them to glorious Newark, NJ. In about five hours they would play their first show in NYC. From their they would go back to the airport, sleep a little and then board another flight to Austin, TX to play a series of shows at Soth By Southwest, before then heading to Los Angeles, CA. But, before all of that….they would assemble in our studio for their first ever radio session in the U.S.
It all started The Law when vocalist Stuart Purvey met bassist Simon Donald at school, and through Simon, older brother, drummer Martin Donald. Once an ad for a guitarist was posted, their choice was Stevie Anderson and they never looked back. They all liked the same music, primarily “classic rock” which went from The Who, to The Clash, to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
“
It's like a band of brothers sorta. We're all there for each other and we know instinctively what's best for each other.
”
Simon Donald
Their immediate goal was to create their live energy onto a record. Well, it worked, it was the feeling I got right off the bat when I first heard the album in September of ’09. To assure this, they set up shop in the studio suggested by management, Sawmill Studios on the banks of River Fowley in Cornwall, U.K. Muse, Oasis, Supergrass, Stiff Little Fingers, all dynamic live bands who were able to bring that energy to record, have recorded there. They used producer Stan Kybert to lock in that live energy. Stuart said that in addition to the obvious “musical” reasons to record here, “it’s secluded location keeps a band focused and keeps you on your best behavior as you create your masterpiece.”
Check out below, their performances of “City Boys, City Girls,” “Television Satellite” and the band’s motto “Don’t Stop, Believe,” which usually opens up their live shows. Get an idea how The Law bring energy and passion to the stage. Vocalist Stuart Purvey adds “It’s the best way to get to know us. I guarantee you’ll like.”
