Minus The Bear‘s latest album Omni, their first for Dangerbird Records, is easily one of the most played records on Last.fm Discover. It’s not often in this day and age, that an album has eight songs that belong on the radio.

Click through to see the band perform three songs from Omni live in our studio, as well as their sit-down interview with us.

After completing Onmi, Minus The Bear shopped it around looking for a label that would “understand it,” and wouldn’t want to change it. Dangerbird became that label, the one they would be most comfortable with. I think Planet Of Ice was a bit darker and this record is a bit brighter. It opens up those emotion of Spring, Summer and warmth.
Dave Knudson
They brought in Grammy Award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli, the first time they went outside their own camp since 2002′s debut album Highly Refined Pirates, when they used Steve Fisk. (Band member/producer Matt Bayles would leave after Planet Of Ice).

They recently wrapped up the second leg of a North American tour and played at Lollapalooza this past weekend. They head overseas to be a part of seven festivals this month. On October 29th, they head to New Orleans City Park for Voodoo Experience.

This band did put out a really good summer record. It seems as if they were writing for the summer, or something warm and with a pop.

couldn’t be happier about all the exposure MTB is getting from the release of Omni– easily the best release of 2010.

hmm, there where a few much better records than mtb’s ‘omni’ … i love this band, no question, but ‘planet of ice’ & especially ‘menos el oso’ are much more creatively sophisticated than their newest release …
anyway take a listen: anais mitchell – hadestown; gregory and the hawk – leche; born ruffians – say it; mount kimbie – crooks and lovers; …
i couldn’t even guess, what would be the best release for this year …
