The Young Veins is the brainchild of former Panic! At The Disco members Ryan Ross and Jon Walker. Their debut album Take A Vacation!, which is out now, took root while Ryan and Jon wrote songs touring the world with their former band. When recently in NYC touring with Rooney & Black Gold, the guys stopped by and filled us in on this new project.

They also sat in to perform “Take A Vacation!,” “Everyone But You,” “Young Veins (Die Tonight),” and “Maybe I Will, Maybe I Won’t” and gave us the story behind each song.

The Young Veins Summer Session Number 9The Young…Formed in late July of last year, Ryan and Jon used members of the band Black Gold to complete Take A Vacation! Many of the songs that make up the debut album, were original ideas for Panic! Once they decided to leave, they needed to then have the original sound change directions. Ryan and Jon’s musical upbringing and influences tilt more towards the sounds of Motown, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Soul and Garage Rock. Throw in the feel I get, The Byrds meeting Jellyfish, and you get the musical picture. A big difference from the grandness of what Panic! is.

Completing the touring band, Nick White (keyboards), Andy Soukal (bass) and Nick Murray (drums) join Ryan and Jon.

“Take a Vacation!”

“Everyone but You”

“Young Veins (Die Tonight)”

“Maybe I Will, Maybe I Won’t”

Let us know which performance was your favorite and leave The Young Veins some love in the comments.

For sure they have to come in France (and not only in Paris please, haha)
This guys are so amazing and Take a Vacation is really great.

I get that their voices aren’t the best in the world, but, I would definitely never say I cringe over them. Ryan’s voice is calming, and I love every second of it. Jon is amazing, too! Overall, who cares about their voices? They make the best of them with this whole album, and I wish I could hear them live. And, sure, I miss Panic! when they were all together, but they’re doing a great job on their own.

The Young Veins are amazing! <3 I love Ryan Ross they are so talented. I've always been a fan of Panic! but i hate that whenever people talk about TYV they have to mention that they were former Panic members. I wish they had done Lie to the Truth in these sessions i hope to see this band live someday

Ryan Ross does not need to take a vacation. What he needs is a haircut. But, regardless of that, the Young Veins are awesome, and I hope they play near me soon!! :)

I love both of these guys as people, and I love their album. I think they’re really talented musicians and lyricists. BUT neither of them is really front man/lead singer material. I like their voices – they’re charming – but let’s be honest, they’re vocals are really weak. They’re both more suited for backup singing or for a solo song on an album where someone else is the lead (like how Ryan had ‘Behind the Sea’ on Pretty. Odd.). I have yet to hear a live performance from the Young Veins that I didn’t cringe at because of the singing.

I love the young veins! All these songs are amazing and this is definitely my kind of summer album! I’m only 17 I’ve always been a fan of panic, especially ryan’s lyrics, but I like the feel that these guys have gone for. Their fans are getting older and their dedicated fans are growing with them and their music and, even though it was really upsetting, they’ve done really well for themselves by leaving patd. I hope they come to the UK soon so I can see them live! Love you guys!! xxxxxxx

I’m 17 too, from Malaysia. I totally love Panic and The Young Veins. It’s sad that they split. Together they really made magic. But if that’s what they want, it’s what we want. I totally understand their music. I regard them the best bands after The Beatles. =) !

God.
Such an amazing band.
Are they not?
I’ve loved Panic since 2005,
and the Young Veins since they first formed in 2009.
They’re spectacular live and the lyrics are great,
not to mention, all the guys are so sweet and just awesome.
Truly one of the greatest bands I’ve heard.

I was so upset when I heard about the break-up, and after hearing both New Perspective and Change it made it all even worse (no offence, but compared to Panic stuff they were shit). When I listened to Take A Vacation! (album) I was beyond relieved. It finally made me completely content ^-^

I totally agree with Sammy. They both are undoubtedly talented and are great song writers, and I loved their work with Panic. When they were with Panic, I admit, I felt like they deserved more credit and individual exposure. So I was happy to hear that they had formed TYV, and I thought the album was very nice and summery, with cute lyrics. However, their voices live really do leave something to be desired. Even Jon’s–who I was pleasantly surprised by on the album. They’re very talented guitarists though, and seem like loveable, charming guys…I just don’t feel like they were cut out to be frontmen. I hope they will prove me wrong in the future, but for now I’m not really digging the Beatles imitations and cringe-worthy vocals. Sorry guys.

I love these songs! I really adore what they did with their music. <3
I hope they come to Indiana!!!!
This is what happens when amazing people create a band: it turns out with perfect music, deep lyrics, awesome people, and devoted fans. :)
Keep it up Young Veins!!!!!!!!

I think you guys make amazing music. In Panic! and The Young Veins. This album is just great, full of such nice and well, easy songs. They make you forget life, and just focus on the lyrics and tunes. And they make you keep singing the songs 3 days after you hear them, it’s great!
I agree with the people here telling you to come to Europe. All us Europeans never get to see our favourite bands play live.
Come to Belgium please :) , or Estonia. Whatever.
Also, I’m sorry that you were having girl problems. I hope you’re over it now.
You guys should do a song featuring Brendon and Spencer, to show us fans that you’re all still friends.
Thank you for existing, and keep up the good work.
Love you all!

<333 amazing!

I'm 16, and I've been a huge Panic fan for ages now, since A Fever You Can't Sweat Out was released, and when they split up I was heartbroken. But The Young Veins are absolutely incredible! Just listening to them makes me smile :) Definitely one of my favorite bands!

And they seriously need to come to Morgantown, WV. Or Pittsburgh. Somewhere close!!

Oh My God. This is the second time I watch this and I still cry. It’s so beautiful, so perfect. No word to describe what I see. It’s Ryan. This make my love for Jon explose. Not Ryan because I cannot love him more than I do now. I will never prefer The Young Veins to Panic!. BUT, it’s just amazing, and they’re sure going to come to Quebec one day. (8 Just for me <3 I could say " I love you guys" but what I feel for them cannot be explained with words.

Space Quest.
