New Discovery At Treasure Island Music Festival, Little Dragon

As expected, Saturday’s Treasure Island Music Festival was an awesome scene quickly overshadowed by a few grand performances created by a raucous crew of musicians Die Antword, LCD Soundsystem and Deadmau5. But if any late afternoon spectacle is to be remembered I would say it was Sweden’s tiny, but goose-bump-inducing big-voiced Yukimi Nagano and her three Little Dragon band mates.
With whispery trip-hop, neo-soul and fragile folk electronic melodies, Little Dragon‘s performance created more of a musical journey for me, rather than a groove. Throughout their set, I couldn’t help but draw comparisons to favorites like Lykki Li,TV On The Radio and Massive Attack. Lead singer Yukimi Nagano has this sort of twisted and charming approach to music, like that of a Fever Ray, Neon Indian or Santigold. If you’re scoping out a new band in the frontiers of avant-garde electronic pop, then Little Dragon might be the band for you. See for yourself below!
For the super-savvy, you may recognize Ms. Nagano from not only Gorillaz hit “Empire Ants” (which she co-wrote,) but also from joining our animated international superstars on stage for the Live On Letterman feature as well!
While no stranger to collaboration, Little Dragon currently they have two fantastic original albums under their belt, a self-titled debut and Machine Dreams,
