Le Tigre’s JD Samson’s Musical Project, MEN (Free Music)
Le Tigre – the angry hipster gaggle that brought dancefloors the seminal ‘Deceptacon’ have been noticeably laid back since their smashing on the scene in 2003 — but here comes a side project to keep fans satiated. They’re called MEN, and we have free music, and videos to tie you over until the release of their debut album Talk About Body released in February 2011.
MEN is the collab between JD Samson along with her cohorts Michael O’Neill (Ladybug Transistor, Princess) and Ginger Brooks Takahashi (LTTR, The Ballet), and keeping with ‘Tigre’s trademark electronoise, the three deliver sassy but careless lyrics about simple relationships and non-thinking subjects over serrated beats that can both slay ‘em at a club and frenetically tap feet at the dive bar.
While we won’t see their debut until next year, we have some great club-ready beats to fill your ipod till it’s release date in Feb, 2011. Here are my recommended tracks:
MEN – “Off Our Backs” is an addictive slice of sizzling synth-pop that urges you to get off your backs and sing along to lyrics “I’ll let you ride the pony” and “I’m a tease for nothing you can’t see…” Fans of Peaches will dig! In fact, all the tracks below are Peaches-like material.

MEN – “Credit Card Babie$” (video by Matt Wolf). Something about replacing the “S” with a dollar sign gives the assumption that you’re not messin’ around especially when your video features wrestlers and all sorts of weirdness. Another great gem for fans of Peaches, Princess Superstar, and Gravy Train.
