Risa Binder has just released her debut album Paper Heart this week, and recently took the time to stop by with her band for a performance and interview. The Columbia, MD native, who moved to Brooklyn, NY around eight years ago, started writing songs about the things going on in her life at the age of nine. She grew up a pop music fan, but totally fell in love with country music while attending college. She was going to appear in a show about women in country music, and while doing research on Loretta Lynn, discovered how incredible she was.More With Risa

Suzanne Santo and Ben Jaffe, who head-up Honeyhoney, stopped by the Last.fm Presents studio with their band recently, while they were in New York City for a show at The Mercury Lounge. They performed a few tunes off the new album, which gives us a little twang, a little Americana and a little good old rootsy country music.

Watch them do their current single “Turn That Finger Around,” a song written in Suzanne’s backyard around a riff that Ben was working on. The rest of the performance is also here, as well as our sit-down chat with Suzanne and Ben.Use That Finger To Click

The Drums 1

The Drums returned to our studio, a little over a year since their initial session with Last.fm Presents. This time around the quirky indie-pop band has a new album to spotlight, Portamento.

Since that last session, however, there have been some changes in their camp. First off, guitarist Adam Kessler left the band just a few days after we first met them. New faces in the band include Myles Matheny (bass/guitar/backing vocals) and a familiar face to me, Danny Lee Allen (drums) who was behind the kit with We Are Scientists when they came by in July of last year.

Lastfm_Yuck_385x240

Indie-rock darlings Yuck stopped by the Last.fm Presents studio in New York recently and performed four songs from their brilliant, critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album. They also sat down for a conversation.

Watch them do “Soothe Me,” which is now featured as part of the deluxe edition bonus CD. By the time the song was finally finished, it was too late to be included on the original release. Yuck also performed three additional songs from the album and chatted with us.Yeah For Yuck

Lastfm_presents_wombats_385x240

The Wombats came back strong in 2011 with their sophomore album This Modern Glitch. They began work on the album in early 2009, shortly after coming off the road supporting their debut album. With the exception of a few festival appearance and shows here and there, the band concentrated mainly on the album. This was necessary even more so, considering there was no material ready to record going into the sessions. No songs had ever been played live, like they were for A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation. If you dig super-catchy Britpop/rock with keyboards, it doesn’t get any better than this.Watch The Wombats

Lastfm_Caveman_385x240

From right here in New York City, we’ve got the five-piece band Caveman all week as one of our featured artists. Their debut album CoCo Beware, produced by French Kicks member Nick Stumpf, is out now.

Matt Iwanusa, Jimmy Carbonetti, Stefan Marolachakis, Sam Hopkins and Jeff Berrall settled in to play us four songs from the album and chatted with us afterwards. Wonderful vocals and harmonies, shimmering guitars, atmospheric keyboards, strong bass lines held together by a steady back beat make Caveman a band not to be missed.Enter Caveman

Lastfm_Scott_H_Biram_385x240

Just the fact alone that Scott H. Biram was sitting in our studio recording a Discover session, is amazing in itself. Back on March 25, 2003, Scott was hit head on by an 18-wheeler truck and driven right over. He suffered a broken femur, knee, arm and several internal injuries. Metal pins & rods were put in all of the broken bones, and on top of that, a foot and a half of his intestines were removed.

Even more amazing is that only a handful of weeks after this life-threatening wreck, he was back on the stage performing in a wheelchair with an IV attached to his arm. He spent the next seven months in and out of the hospital. (Strangely enough, two original songs that he released on the record LO:FI Mojo, were called “Truck Driver” and “Wreck My Car”).The Dirty Old One Man Band
