The Postelles

Let’s jump back to this time, last year. I was already aware of The Postelles who hail from New York City, after seeing them play a few times and was enjoying the advance of their forthcoming debut album. Their initial session was set-up and captured on July 6th of 2010, around the street date of the disc.

However, between the time of the session and it’s initial week to be featured on Last.fm Discover, the release date was changed. So, we waited to post the session and scheduled it around the new release date. Next thing ya know, as the end of the year is getting closer, the album is not coming out.Find Out Why

KT Tunstall is set to release her brand-new album Tiger Suit on October 5th. She paid a very special visit to our studio to premiere some of her new material for us. Recorded at Hansa Studios in Berlin, it’s produced by Jim Abbiss. After meeting him, Tunstall discovered a really similar kinship to rhythm, sound and melody.

Watch KT perform and talk about three songs from her forthcoming album, “(Still A) Weirdo,” “Glamour Puss” and the first single “Fade Like A Shadow.”

Prior to the release of their second full-length album Champ, Tokyo Police Club came to the Last.fm Discover studio in NYC and shared this new material with us. The album, produced by Rob Schnapf, shows us a band that has matured greatly from the early days when they started messing about for fun in keyboardist Graham Wright’s basement.

Check out Dave Monks (vocals/bass), Graham Wright (keyboards), Josh Hook (guitar) and Greg Alsop (drums) as they unveil exclusive studio performances of “Wait Up (Boots Of Danger),” “End Of A Spark” and “Hands Reversed.”

We knew as soon as we booked We Are Scientists in for an Energizer session, there would be no rules. The performance doesn’t stray from the norm. But once Keith Murray and Chris Cain sat down for the chat, it turned into the Keith & Chris show! Never knowing what they’d say or talk about, is exactly what we wanted.

The guys ran through 4 songs for us, including “Nice Guys,” “Rules Don’t Stop,” “Pittsburgh” from the new album Barbara and “After Hours” from it’s predecessor Brain Thrust Master.

The Young Veins is the brainchild of former Panic! At The Disco members Ryan Ross and Jon Walker. Their debut album Take A Vacation!, which is out now, took root while Ryan and Jon wrote songs touring the world with their former band. When recently in NYC touring with Rooney & Black Gold, the guys stopped by and filled us in on this new project.

They also sat in to perform “Take A Vacation!,” “Everyone But You,” “Young Veins (Die Tonight),” and “Maybe I Will, Maybe I Won’t” and gave us the story behind each song.

Lastfm_22-20s_385x240

We welcome back 22-20s, who after releasing their debut album and touring behind it, disbanded in early 2006. It wasn’t due to internal conflicts or a falling out. Chalk it up as too much, too soon. The “break” was much needed, as it helped co-founders Martin Trimble and Glen Bartup to realize they needed to be in this band. Their “comeback” album Shake/Shiver/Moan is certainly an album not to be missed.

Click through to see the exclusive in-studio performances of “Shake, Shiver And Moan,” “Talk To Me,” “Ocean” and “Bitter Pills” and the story behind each song.

In a very unique way, Freelance Whales took it upon themselves to promote their club gigs. They would play acoustically in the street and at subway stations, staying in the areas of New York City that were aggressively consuming culture. They spread the word of nearby gigs by handing out flyers at these open-air shows. It was also in the street that they starting building a reputation and attracting industry folk.
