Adam Thompson from We Were Promised Jetpacks wraps up with us here in part 3.Adam completes the Last.fm Discover session
Their self-titled album released in February on Kemado is easily one of my favorites of 2010. If you can imagine The Fall and The Feelies put in a blender and poured out, you have The Soft Pack. From San Diego, CA now based in Los Angeles, The Soft Pack came into the Last.fm Discover studio to prove in front of our faces how good of an album they released earlier this year. They plugged in and whipped effortlessly through four songs from their self-titled album, including the ever-so-catchy “Cmon” and “Answer To Yourself.”
While in NYC they also made their debut performance on the Late Show With David Letterman where they did the afforementioned “Answer To Yourself” and dedicated it Warren Zevon. Slick and smart move, knowing how BIG of a fan David is of the late geniusOriginally known as The Muslims, they released their first single in 2008, and have already been covered by Nada Surf and added their own remix of “Fences” to the Phoenix digital album “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (Remix Collection)”
Mayday Parade rolled into NYC for their Last.fm Discover session on February 8th of this year, and were co-Artists Of The Week on June 7th. Their latest album Anywhere But Here was my nineteenth favorite album of ’09, so it was a treat getting three songs from that album done acoustically and to sit down and chat with this young band from Tallahassee, FL.
Today, another session that’s never been shown in full. Zach Rogue and Pat Spurgeon, the heart of Rogue Wave, stop by about a month before the release of the fourth studio album, Permalight. This session was recorded on February 3, 2010 and they were Artist Of The Week April 26, 2010.
To put us all in the festive holiday season, Tori Amos dropped in on Last.fm Discover on December 8, 2009 to play songs from her holiday album Midwinter Graces. Afterwards, Tori and I talked about the making of the album and talked about Christmas in general. Enjoy this entire session, seen for the first time anywhere. Tori’s voice and her playing just put you into that wintery mood.
Steve Schiltz (Longwave / Scout) has another steller project, Hurricane Bells. Joining him for this session, band-member Ashen Keilyn, who is the lead singer and guitarist of Scout. The debut album, Tonight is the Ghost was released in November of 2009. They joined us for the session on January 21, 2010, and were the Artist Of The Week May 10, 2010. (FYI – We are still dealing with using an iPhone camera……)
Dallas Green finds time to visit the Last.fm Discover studio. Between working with Alexisonfire and his “softer” side project City and Colour, we were happy and honored that he took time out to perform and chat with us, back on January 8th of this year. The session at the Last.fm Discover studio was stunning, which included a breath-taking version of Son House’s “Grinnin’ In Your Face.” Check out the performance & interview.

Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit stops by for a performance that had us reeling and you will never forget! This session was done on December 14 of 2009, our last session of the year. Passion Pit were the Artist Of The Week on February 1st, 2010. This entire session has never been shown on this site, until now!Watch This Amazing Performance
Before Last.fm Discover branched out to this website, and was only using the Discover radio station as it’s home, we tabbed Civil Twilight Artist Of The Week back on May 17th. The session that you see here was done at our studio on January 25th. Check out brothers Steven and Andrew along with Richard in their four-song performance and check out their interview here, in two parts.

WE The Kings took time out of their schedule while in NYC just over a year ago, on December 8th, 2009. They were in town for their record release party the next night. We crowned them Artist Of The Week on March 22 of this year, but have never brought you the entire session on the site. Join Travis Clark along with Hunter & Drew Thomsen as they do it up in our studio.
